Can I tell a girl that she is good looking on a first date?

Is it coming on to strong to strong to tell a girl that she is attractive on a first date? I'd like to drop it subtly but strong... I hear she is a model, and I was thinking if she mentions that in conversation I could say something along the lines of, "I can totally see that-- you're gorgeous" ... Would that be too weird? I don't have too much experience in this sort of thing and don't have a lot of people I could ask so I'm sorry if this seems like a silly question.
