Why do people have/like cacti?

I have cacti because I have always liked them. There are so many different types, sizes and shapes. They often have beautiful flowers, although they don't flower often. They are super easy to care for and seem to thrive even when neglected. You don't have to re-pot them very often either. The best one I own has a really exotic and weird flower once a year, that lasts for around one week. It is a bright, luminescent green with purple dots on the raised, round centre, (like a miniature rubber tyre), of the flower. It looks like something from the planet Mars. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes and took photos in case it didn't bloom again. If you like cacti and you live in england, then I recommend that you visit Kew Gardens near London. They have a wonderful hothouse of cacti, it's just beautiful.
